Austin Country Club is the city's oldest private club, founded by Lewis Hancock on November 14, 1899, and on its current 189.5-acre Davenport Ranch site since February 1, 1984. Pete Dye designed the 18-hole, par-72 course along the Colorado River (Lake Austin), with the Pennybacker Bridge as its backdrop; it hosted the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play from 2016 to 2023. The club is private and member-owned, and Harvey Penick taught there for decades. There are no homes inside the club grounds. The club sits in Davenport Ranch (78746, Eanes ISD), with Westlake Hills, Lost Creek and Rob Roy nearby.
The Austin Country Club Lifestyle
Austin Country Club carries more than a century of Austin golf history: Harvey Penick's 82 years with the club, the major champions Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite, and a clubhouse once rebuilt from the stone of the University of Texas's Old Main. Today members play Pete Dye's course along Lake Austin, below the Pennybacker Bridge, and use the pool, tennis and pickleball area, fitness area, Harvey's restaurant and The Terrace. The club also hosts private events for members and their guests.
