Keenan Group Moms Share Their Ideal Austin Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all who celebrate! Keenan Group is a diverse and family-focused team of top-producing Austin and #1 Northwest Hills REALTORS® and moms! This Mother's Day, we're sharing our ideal Austin day. We'd love to hear about your perfect Austin and surrounding areas plans in the comments below!

Cara Keenan | Team Principal

Northwest Hills Resident

Morning Bliss (7-8 AM)

The day kicks off on a beautiful morning in Northwest Hills. I roll out of bed with my husband, Joe, and our energetic 5-year-old Vizsla, Scout, who's already ready for adventure. We brew up some killer espressos and throw open the doors to let in all those morning nature sounds. With meditation music playing softly, we chat about what we're grateful for, our goals for the day, challenges we need to solve, and whatever wild plans we're cooking up for the future.

Why I love living here: "Northwest Hills provides the perfect balance of peaceful neighborhood living while still being minutes from everything Austin has to offer."

Breakfast Indulgence (9-10 AM)

By mid-morning, we're hitting up Eldorado Cafe for their Migas - seriously, they're mind-blowingly good ($12-15). Nothing beats their flavor and it's become our go-to breakfast spot when we want to start the day right. It's always a favorite with out-of-town guests!

Mother's Day Tip: Make reservations at least a week in advance as they fill up quickly for brunch!

Art Exploration (10:30 AM - 12:30 PM)

After filling up, we like to dive into Austin's art scene. We cruise over to Clarksville and wander through West Chelsea Contemporary and Wally Workman Gallery (free admission). Sometimes we'll check out The Contemporary Austin - Laguna Gloria or UMLAUF Sculpture Garden ($5-9), where sculptures give you art with a side of nature.

Lunch with a View (1-2:30 PM)

When lunch rolls around, we grab a table outside at Clark's Oyster Bar ($$-$$$). Sitting in the sunshine, people-watching and enjoying some amazing seafood - it doesn't get much better than that!

Afternoon Activities (3-5 PM)

Now that we've charged our batteries, we head to Barton Springs Nursery on Bee Caves Road. We're total plant nerds and can spend hours checking out all the cool varieties. Sometimes we switch it up and hit East Austin Succulents or Tillery Street Plant Company instead - each place has its own unique vibe.

Later, we take Scout for a hike at St. Edward's Park (free). If we're feeling extra energetic, we tackle the River Place Canyon Trail - it's a beast but totally worth it for the views and the workout.

Home Feature Connection: "Having large windows that bring in natural light is perfect for all the plants we bring home from our nursery adventures!"

Evening Dining (6-8 PM)

As dinner time approaches, we might try Aris near 5th Street ($$), or mix it up with one of our other favorites - Bartlett's, Red Ash, Uchiko, or Emmer & Rye ($$$). The food scene here is incredible, and we're always discovering new spots.

Hidden Gems (8-10 PM)

Now here's where the tourists miss out - Austin has so many hidden gems! On other perfect days, we might geek out looking through the Painter Hall Telescope at UT on a Friday night (free). The Color Inside exhibit at UT is another cool spot that flies under the radar.

We're also big fans of Austin's speakeasy scene - there are so many now, each with their own personality. Or sometimes we'll just catch a movie at Alamo Drafthouse ($$), munching on their ridiculously good crispy chicken sandwiches while watching whatever's new.

Home Sweet Home (10 PM onwards)

But honestly? By the end of a perfect day, we're usually ready to head home to our boys. We're total homebodies at heart, and nothing beats Netflix and spending time with the family. Scout curled up at our feet, maybe with a bag of popcorn or Trader Joe's Little Swimmers in hand, reflecting on another amazing day in this city we love.

That's what makes Austin special to me! You can have all these adventures and discoveries, but at the end of the day, it still feels like home.

Michelle Kopp | Broker Associate

Circle C Area Resident

Morning (8-10 AM)

Michelle would start her perfect day at Teal House coffee and bakery in South Austin. Their cinnamon rolls are a must-try!

Why I love living here: "Circle C offers neighborhood charm with easy access to Austin's amenities - the perfect balance for family living."

Midday (11 AM - 2 PM)

She'd take in the greenery at Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail (free), and have lunch at Bureau de Poste restaurant in Hyde Park ($$).

Mother's Day Special: Bureau de Poste offers a special Mother's Day prix fixe menu - reservations highly recommended!

Evening (5-10 PM)

Her evening would include dinner at District Kitchen + Cocktails in Circle C ($$), and taking in some entertainment at Long Center for the Performing Arts or Alamo Drafthouse Cinema ($$-$$$).

Home Feature Connection: "Living in a neighborhood with walkable dining options makes spontaneous date nights so much easier!"

Marita Hanna | Operations Manager

Northwest Austin Coffee Enthusiast

Morning (9-11 AM)

As a self-proclaimed coffee addict, Marita would start her Austin dream day with a delicious coffee and perhaps a pastry from Mozart's Coffee Roasters ($5-15) and take in the gorgeous lakefront morning.

Why I love living here: "The Lake Travis area offers the perfect blend of natural beauty and convenience - it never gets old watching the sunset over the water."

Midday (12-3 PM)

Marita is also fueled by queso, and thinks that an ideal day doesn't have rules about calories, so she'd enjoy at least two of her favorite queso recipes from Chuy's on Barton Springs and Manuel's on Jollyville ($$)!

Afternoon (3-5 PM)

She'd relax with a massage and facial at Milk & Honey ($$$).

Mother's Day Package: Milk & Honey offers special Mother's Day spa packages that include a complimentary gift - book at least 2 weeks in advance!

Evening (5:30-8 PM)

Marita's ideal day would end at Vista Brewing ($$), taking in a sunset in the Hill Country with a delicious cold beverage!

Home Feature Connection: "Having a spacious outdoor patio at home lets me recreate that Hill Country brewery atmosphere whenever I want!"

Leah Schimberg | Transaction & Listing Coordinator

Central Austin Resident and Austin FC soccer fan

Morning (7-9 AM)

Leah's ideal Austin day starts off on a healthy foot with getting up and going to a LOVE Cycling Studio class ($25 for drop-in, packages available).

Why I love living here: "Central Austin's accessibility means I can enjoy everything from boutique fitness studios to amazing restaurants without spending my day in traffic."

Midday (12-3 PM)

She'd enjoy a light lunch outside if the weather is good, either a HEB sushi bowl or something yummy from Choo Sando ($).

Next, she'd enjoy a bit of shopping! Austin's antiquing and thrifting opportunities abound at places like Uncommon Objects and Room Service Vintage (varied prices).

Afternoon (3-5 PM)

Leah might fit in a nap after all that fun, before enjoying a tasty meal with friends or family at one of her favorites, Quality Seafood, Juliet Italian Kitchen, or Tumble 22 ($$).

Mother's Day Note: Quality Seafood often has special seafood platters available for Mother's Day - call ahead to pre-order!

Evening (7-10 PM)

She'd cap off her perfect Austin day with a book and bed.

Home Feature Connection: "Having a dedicated reading nook by a window is essential for my evening wind-down routine!"
