About Holly
Holly is the part of East Austin that runs from East 7th Street south to Lady Bird Lake, east of I-35, in the 78702 ZIP code. The City of Austin plans the area as the Holly neighborhood, and its lake edge is public parkland: Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach, Fiesta Gardens and the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail run along the shore.
The neighborhood takes its name from the Holly Street Power Plant, which closed in 2007 after years of neighborhood complaints and an organized campaign for its removal. In 2014 the Austin City Council approved the Holly Shores / Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach Vision Plan, which adds about nine acres of parkland from the former power plant site to roughly 90 acres of existing parkland along the north shore of Lady Bird Lake between I-35 and Pleasant Valley Road.
Homes range from original bungalows to newer construction on small urban lots. East Cesar Chavez Street and East 6th Street carry the neighborhood's restaurants and shops, including Juan in a Million, which has served breakfast and lunch on East Cesar Chavez since 1980, La Barbecue, Launderette on Holly Street, Suerte, Cisco's and Licha's Cantina.
Holly is in Austin ISD. Sanchez Elementary, at 73 San Marcos Street, is the area's modernized elementary campus; confirm the assigned campuses for any address with AISD before you buy. The current market figures shown on this page come from closed MLS sales, dated where they appear.
Lifestyle & Amenities
Holly pairs a lake edge of public parkland and the Butler Trail with restaurants on East Cesar Chavez and East 6th, original bungalows next to newer homes, and the City's long-running plan to turn the former power plant site into parkland.
