This historic architect designed home blends the past and the future perfectly, keeping the mission style exterior, rough hewn flooring and adding modern flow - salt water pool - gardens - solar and much more. The courtyard is framed by towering walls of terra cotta block (which has been manufactured in D’Hanis, Texas for 100 years), and is a well of light and verdancy that focuses the rooms and fills every inch of the house. The main entry became an open-air, dogtrot breezeway, funneling breezes and confounding the expectations of the simple white stucco exterior. The architect/owners commitment to light and the outdoors is matched by a belief in the sensuous, vital quality of materials- Terra Cotta block, Wood (oak, longleaf pine, cypress, ipe´), encaustic tile, steel, board formed concrete and venetian plaster. In fact the whole house is dedicated to Austin’s unique, elemental way of living, from its charming historic character to the enticing swimming pool, with every exceptional, mindful touch in between.
